Turkish troops have pushed deep into north-eastern Syria Thursday dawn, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.
"Commando units were continuing their advance in the eastern Euphrates region," the Ministry added, according to the Anatolia News Agency.
A witness said thousands of people have fled Ras al-Ain district deeper into the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) territory towards Hasaka province.
The SDF said that Turkish air strikes killed five civilians and injured dozens, Reuters reported.
"A prison holding ISIS detainees was hit in a Turkish airstrike," the SDF said in a Twitter post, while SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali said their forces had repelled a ground incursion in Tal Abyad area.
The UN Security Council announced that it will hold an emergency meeting Thursday to discuss the Turkish attack on Syria, while the Arab League plans to meet on Saturday to discuss the same issue.
