The annual Consumer Prince Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, edged up by 1.68 percent in January reaching 101.57 points against 99.89 points in the same month last year, according to official figures.

The basic CPI for the same month (January), measured by excluding the most price-volatile commodities and services, including foodstuffs, fuel and lighting, and transportation, stood at 68.21 points up by 1.01 percent from 67.53 points recorded last year, according to the data by the Department of Statistics (DOS).

Noteworthy, the DOS updated the CPI baseline year to 2018 instead of 2010 based on the results of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey for 2018.
