The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) has revamped the National Committee for the Elimination of Child Marriage, targeting under-18yrs segments in Jordan, as part of a follow-up plan (2020-2024) funded by the United Nations Population Fund, according to a statement issued by the council on Saturday.
Launched in 2016, the national plan, was based on a recommendation from the National Framework for Family Protection against Violence, aims to update its priorities to ensure their consistency with new legislative and institutional developments on the scene.
Moreover, the 2016 plan seeks to enhance family- driven awareness, boost stakeholders' participation to reduce child marriage phenomenon, and mitigate its impact on Jordanian families.
During its 1st meeting, the National Committee for the Elimination of Child Marriage discussed guidelines to grant permission to 15-yrs to complete their marriage, as per the judicial authorities directives, according to the statement.
This permission, the data show, has reduced the child marriages, urging to assess and document its economic impact, and highlight its "adverse" implications, said the statement
