Three missiles on Monday struck the heavily fortified Green Zone in the center of Baghdad, but no casualties or damage were reported.

An Iraqi security source told Petra's correspondent in the Iraqi capital that three Katyusha rockets landed Monday evening at the Green Zone, which houses the government headquarters, parliament and foreign embassies.

The source said that the projectiles were fired from the Zafaraniya district south of Baghdad targeting the US embassy, and that sirens sounded at the mission after the attack.

The source did not mention any casualty figures or reveal the extent of damage after the attack, which was not the first on the American embassy following the recent escalation between the United States and Iran.
