Minister of Labor, Nidal Batayneh, has ordered closure of Zmaleia factory in the Northern Ghour District to allow the joint investigation committee, forged from the labor and health ministries, with Civil Defense Directorate (CDD), to reassess the factory’s condition and its preparedness to resume operations after a suffocation incident several days ago.

In a media statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry's press spokesperson, Mohamed Zyoud, said 39 female workers suffered various health complications, among the 585, who resumed work today.

Upon their request, the workers were transferred to the hospital, where most were discharged after being confirmed to be in "good" health condition, Zyoud said.

On the goals to form the joint committee, he said the step aims to table a "neutral" report on the factory's condition, and to dodge any future employer-worker disputes, Zyoud pointed out.
